Program: The Kumeyaay and Plants presented by Kristi Orosco
Kristie Orosco, a lifelong resident of San Pasqual in San Diego County, will speak about the Kumeyaay use of plants for medical, religious and other purposes and how they have shaped the San Diego landscape. She has given numerous presentations, including interviews and episodes for KPBS programs, has worked on Kumeyaay garden designs for USD, Old Town, and other installations, and is an instructor on biodiversity, climate science, and Native plants and people. As a local-based researcher of environmental science, she collaborates and shares information to expand support for conservation of all endemic species and habitats. In addition to her expertise in ethnobotany, the environment, and conservation, she teaches indigenous art classes such as how to make willow bark skirts and traditional foods on the Indian reservations. She will bring items for sale (native plant items and crafts) to benefit UCSD Native Plant Garden
