Program: ART ALIVE by Five Floral Designers

ART ALIVE is the concept of combining wonderful works of art such as paintings and sculptures with interpretive floral designs created by Garden Club Arrangers, Florist, Ikebana Arrangers and Bonsai practitioners. The public and museum members view the works of art in an entirely new light once the floral arrangements are in place with the painting or sculptures. The flower arrangements are symbolic interpretations rather than a literal copy of the art with flowers. Members Dale Rekus, Jan Kugler, Rick Spears, Lina Pei and Laurie Roeder will interpret art pieces from our museum and explain their design and thought process for creating beautiful floral designs reflecting stunning works of art.

Program: Is it a Horticultural Myth?

    Dawn Standke will present.

It's easy to find gardening advice online - but how much of it makes sense? Join us for some Horticultural Myth Busting where we will cover topics including: Should I put banana peels on my plants? Do eggshells, Epsom salts or Tums cure blossom end rot on tomatoes? Will a “penny ball” drive away snails and slugs? Can copper nails kill trees? Should I put gravel in the bottom of a container to improve drainage? Are bananas slightly radioactive? Which plants can hurt me? Are green potatoes bad for me? What are some facts (not so fun!) about our new invasive mosquito species, the “ankle biter” or yellow fever mosquito, Aedes aegypti?.
