    OCTOBER FIELD TRIP

    ALTA VISTA BOTANICAL GARDENS

    and

    EXOTICA RARE FRUIT NURSERY

    MONDAY, OCT. 16TH

    9:00AM CARPOOL at Liberty Station

$5.00 per person for the Botanical Gardens

We’ll meet at 9:00 AM at the parking lot for Slater’s 50/50 in Liberty Station (next to the old Ace Hardware). Suggest wearing sturdy shoes (closed toe) for both tours. Hopefully the weather will be great, but bring a hat and some water just in case.

    ALTA VISTA BOTANICAL GARDENS
1270 Vale Terrace Dr., Vista, CA
    AltaVistaBotanicalGardens.org

Alta Vista Botanical Gardens is a true community garden designed for “bringing together people, nature and art.” We’ll meet with a docent, Naomi Stein, for a tour. There are several different gardens: a children’s garden, healing garden, herb gardens and of course gardens for different climates/countries.

Art objects and sculptures are everywhere. The garden has both paved walkways and dirt paths. There are elevation changes when going to some of the gardens, depending on where Naomi guides us. There is a $5.00 fee for non-members.

    YELLOW DELI
    315 E. Broadway, Vista, CA
    YellowDeli.com/our-food

For lunch, we’ll head to the Yellow Deli. This was recommended by Naomi. They have a private room that will hold 20+ so that we can have some privacy. They have soup, salads, sandwiches, ect.

    EXOTICA RARE FRUIT NURSERY
2508 E. Vista Way, Vista, CA
    ExoticaRareFruits.com

Exotica Rare Fruit Nursery has just about every tropical fruit and flower that you can think of, and then some. We have plans to meet with one of the owners, Steve, for an introduction and tour. There’s usually fruit to sample on a table at the entrance (whatever is ripe at the time). It’s a little primitive. There’s a small sign on the main road and we turn onto a dirt road and dirt parking lot. The walks ways are either dirt or grass (it’s level, no hills) and not everything has a price tag on it. But, it’s amazing to see all of the tropicals that thrive there. The web site is really nothing more than a “UTube” video that someone shot of the nursery.
